SpeakIt! - Text to speech for Chrome
SpeakIt! is a free text-to-speech extension for Chrome that allows users to listen to selected text instead of reading it. With the help of TTS (Text-to-Speech) technology, SpeakIt! can convert text into speech in over 50 languages.
To use SpeakIt!, simply select the text you want to listen to and click on the SpeakIt! icon. The icon will display the number of sentences ready to be read. You can pause the reading at any time by clicking on the pause button.
The latest version of SpeakIt! (vincludes small bug fixes and an update bug fix. In previous versions, SpeakIt! switched to the Chrome language detection API and improved sentence splitting for better pronunciation. It also added internationalization support with localization in 12 languages. Other features include keyboard shortcut and context menu support, speech input (speech to text) feature, and an options page to configure new TTS engines/voices.
